Should students attending public schools have to pay for parking? After all, it is a public school, and students at public schools are getting a free education, so why shouldn't they have to pay, when they can take the bus, if money is the real issue. When thinking about this, we must consider that all students may not be in the vicinity of a bus stop. Also, living in Minnesota, I have realized that waiting at a bus stop at 6:45 in the morning with below zero wind chills isn't a pleasant or healthy experience. So if students would be helped out by complimentary parking, why is it such a conflict? There will always be a parking lot, and students (whether they are legally parked there or not) will want to put their cars there. Many students don't have time to work afternoons and weekends with homework, sports, and other extra cirricular activities. With the cost of the car itself, insurance, gas, and necessary car washes (because of the corroding salt on the roads in the winter)it adds up to be quite a bit, without the expensive parking permits. By allowing high school students to park for free, it would eliminate the need for the 'rent-a-cops' to look on every winshield for a permit. It would allow the students to not have to stand out in the cold for minutes on end. Taking a bus also isn't relatively safe. There are no seatbelts or air bags. If the result of free student parking is mostly positive, why not do it?

Color blind or color aware?

As I was flipping channels the other day, I came across the BET channel, BET meaning Black Entertainment Television. This isn't completely offensive to me, but I did find myself wondering why no confrontations have resulted from this 'all black all the time' existance. If a white person were to establish a WET (White Entertainment Television) channel, for instance, would the black community take it offensively that there was a channel on television reserved purely for whites? We can't be certain, but I would be willing to bet that many there would be many complaints arousing from the black (and other minorities) community. Yet for some reason, the makers of this television channel assume that it is ok to segregate television viewers. If it is now ok to segregate, why did so many people in the past work to show people that they should judge based on character, not on color? Does this mean that Martin Luther King Jr.'s death has been in vain? If you look at all of the college scholarship applications, you will find that on every one, you are asked to provide your race. There are special scholarships and funds set aside for minorities, which whites aren't considered for. Again, let's turn the tables. Would the communities reactions be different if there were funds kept separated purely for white students? A different situation, based on the same principle: Blacks, being given their own spaces in public that only they can use, such as benches, restrooms, bus seats, etc. Sound familiar? It should. The exact same thing has happened in our country's past, except the tables were turned. Does this justify it happening again? Because blacks were treated poorly in the past, we are slowly allowing them to do the same to the rest of the country. If they are so against whites being superior, (which they should well be) why are they forcing themselves back into segregation. This is why I ask which is truly better: Being color blind or color aware?
